1966 was the year the guitar hero was born. It was the year that Eric Clapton, aged 21, recorded the landmark Beano Album with John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers and then walked away to form Cream; the year that Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page, both aged 22, ended up smashing guitars and bashing through sonic barriers together in The Yardbirds; the year that marked the arrival of 19-year-old wunderkind Peter Green and a game-changing 24-year-old named Jimi Hendrix. It was, in short, the year when a new generation of guitar giants transformed the American deep blues songbook into a new strand of rock music.

Kingfish coverage in WaPo. The 20 year-old is becoming an icon... "He took an interest in blues around 5, after his dad showed him a Muddy Waters documentary. By 11, he was in a music program at Clarksdale’s Delta Blues Museum and could play guitar, drums and bass. As a teenager, Ingram uploaded covers to YouTube, which led to a role in Netflix and Marvel’s “Luke Cage.” In May, he released his debut album, “Kingfish,” on which he trades solos with living blues legend Buddy Guy.

Led Zeppelin II was released 50 years ago today. The blues-rock masterpiece featured an acoustic/electric cover of Sonny Boy Williamson’s “Bring It On Home” while “Lemon Song” mashed up Howlin’ Wolf, Robert Johnson and Albert King material.
